Makia clothing was started in 2001 in Helsinki, Finland. With it’s roots in the workers district of Punavuori, Makia’s philosophy was to create classic clothing, based on the Finnish tradition of simple, straightforward and functional design.
Each collection draws inspiration from Helsinki’s nautical heritage, with fishing, lighthouses, boating and anchors being common themes across the line. The lighthouse featured on many of the garments and labelling is the Lighthouse of Harmaja, which was erected in 1883 and still stands today, protecting ships in the Helsinki Harbour.
Many of the jackets are fully waterproof and built to withstand the cold Finnish climate, whereas the t-shirts and shirting would be equally at home in a Helsinki harbour bar, or your local nightspot in London.
Perhaps our favourite part of the Makia line is the premium Leather Footwear. All constructed in Portugal to the highest standards, the line includes everything from the Monterosso dress shoes right through to the Metropol work boots.
Appreciating quality comes naturally to Finns that endure chilling winds and below zero temperatures during the winters. Check out the current Makia line of jackets, sweatshirts, shirts and t-shirts. Get some Finnish style in your wardrobe.
